House competitions promote pride & belonging within the student body
CHCS Student Houses
Our school has three student houses, all of which are named after pioneering missionaries. Each house has a head of house, who is a teacher dedicated to lead the specific house. Families are allocated to a house as they start in the school.
During the year many house competitions and house days are conducted with both staff & students involved to gain points for the annual shield which is awarded at the Celebration Evening. This form of competition promotes pride and belonging, but also the value of team involvement.
Judson - Yellow Adoniram Judson, Jr. (1788–1850) was an American Baptist missionary, who served in Burma for almost forty years. At the age of 25, Adoniram Judson became the first Protestant missionary sent from North America to preach in Burma. His mission and work led to the formation of the first Baptist association in America, inspired many Americans to become or support missionaries, translated the Bible into Burmese, and established a number of Baptist churches in Burma. With very few converts in his time there, he is known for his perseverance.
Carey - Blue William Carey (1761-1834) was an English Baptist missionary and a Particular Baptist minister, known as the ‘father of modern missions’. Carey was one of the founders of the Baptist Missionary Society. As a missionary in the Danish colony, Serampore, India, he translated the Bible into Bengali, Sanskrit, and numerous other languages and dialects.
Taylor - Red James Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), was a British Protestant Christian missionary to China, and founder of the China Inland Mission (CIM). Taylor spent 51 years in China. The society that he began was responsible for bringing over 800 missionaries to the country who began 125 schools and directly resulted in 18,000 Christian conversions. Taylor was able to preach in several varieties of Chinese, including Mandarin, Chaozhou, and Wu dialects. The last of these he knew well enough to help prepare a colloquial edition of the New Testament written in it.
